4F Southend - Barling - Wakering - Foulness

Public access to Foulness Island is RESTRICTED. The buses onto the island are NOT considered a Public Right of Way, and cannot be used by unauthorised persons to access the island, whom are required to alight at Landwick. (those using the 4H service to access Foulness Heritage Centre are allowed to remain on-board, as long as they are booked Heritage Centre visitors). Better Queensway work starts 31/10/2025 until at least January 2027. Expect delays in the Southend area during this time. Some services may be curtailed short of their usual terminals to maintain service reliability.

Better Queensway work starts 31/10/2025 until at least January 2027. As part of this, the Queensway Underpass will be PERMANENTLY CLOSED after 08/12/2025, with the northern slip roads closed (except for access from Short Street) until at least January 2027. Work on the Porters Grange Roundabout (above Queensway) will also start around this time. Expect delays on all of these routes.

Due to Better Queensway works, buses that usually use Sutton Road or Southchurch Road will be on diversion after December 8. Buses on routes 2 and 4/4F will use stop F (Southend Travel Centre) for buses leaving Southend. Stops VR/VS (Whitegate Road) and VQ (Southchurch Road) will NOT be served during this time, and passengers will need to travel down to Southend Travel Centre to board buses on these routes. **Route 4A will terminate at Thorpe Bay station during this time.**

Due to Better Queensway works, Southchurch Road will be CLOSED from 04/02/26 until 18/05/26. Buses will divert via Southchurch Avenue and York Road (in)/Chancellor Road (out). During this time, buses will use Stop F at Southend Travel Centre. Stops between Southchurch Avenue corner and Whitehouse Road will NOT be served.
